Child Sponsorship

In Nigeria, over 10 Million Nigerian children between the ages of 6 and 14 are out of school. Out of this number, 52% of them had dropped out of Primary school because of cost related factors even though education is nominally free (UNESCO 2013/14 EFA Global Monitoring report).

Sponsoring a child means giving a talented child the chance to reach their full potential, and lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty.

The foundation sponsors children from low income homes to government secondary schools, this would not have been possible as in many cases, scholars cannot afford the cost of secondary education.

It costs N100,000 ($500) annually to keep a child in school. With a monthly contribution of 8,333 ($45), you can change a child’s life forever.

Learn more about child sponsorship

Sponsor-A-Child programme is an Oando Foundation initiative that calls for individuals and organizations to support outstanding pupils from our adopted schools, by funding their secondary education.

The Foundation’s sponsorship model identifies outstanding children from disadvantaged homes who in most cases cannot afford secondary education. The programme affords them the opportunity to further their education and transform their future.

Your donation will cover tuition where applicable, as well as other expenses to include; Transportation, Study materials and Uniforms for your sponsored child. Though education is nominally free, many parents cannot afford the associated cost of education.

All scholars must be primary six pupils from Oando adopted schools, who have scored a cumulative average of 70% from the combined total of their primary five (5) and primary six (6) continuous assessment and exam results.

Eligible students are selected by the Foundation in partnership with State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), School Heads and representatives of School Based Management Committees (SBMC), Local Government Education Authorities (LGEA) and Implementing Partners (IP’s).

The Nigerian secondary school system is 6years – 3 years of junior secondary and 3 years of senior secondary. However, sponsorship is voluntary and you decide how long you are able to support.
